Hair Transplant in Mumbai
Hair Transplant Clinic offers solutions to patients with extensive hair loss. This is achieved by combining FUE – STRIP surgery in 2-3 consecutive days. We have perfected this hair restoration concept for some time and now it is offered as a standard procedure to our patients. It is now possible for our numerous hair transplant patients in the Norwood Scale 4-7 to proceed and restore the whole of their thinning or balding area with one visit to the clinic. Usually, the case is that one hair restoration procedure is needed to cover the hair loss at the front and top area and then a second surgery to cover the hair loss at the crown. In the case where the hair restoration patient chooses to initially proceed with the STRIP Technique, they must wait for at least 8 months before their donor laxity allows the extraction of a second Strip in order to restore the remaining thinning area. Also, when a patient chooses the FUE Hair Transplant Surgery to restore the front and top area, they still need to come back later for a second FUE surgery to cover the remaining area. So, the combination surgery of FUE and STRIP avoids the second visit. Combination of the FUE – STRIP hair transplant techniques has been successfully offered already for a few years, solving forever the problem of multiple hair restoration procedures. The way this is done is by extracting an average 2500 FUE grafts the first two days and a STRIP of 3500 grafts the third day, giving us in total an average of 6000 grafts hair restoration procedure. In the case shown below, the patient with a three consecutive day visit to the clinic covered all front, top and the crown area with 2000 FUE and 3000 Strip grafts and can now opt for not having any additional procedure. Hair Transplant surgery by combining FUE-STRIP methods will not limit the patient’s donor capability for further surgeries in the future, if needed.

Hair Transplant By Strip Method
The Strip Harvesting technique is a hair transplantation method that involves removing the follicular units from the donor area as one group. This hair transplant technique allows the follicular units to be extracted intact in their genetic form. Each follicular unit contains one to four hairs, the average being 2.2 hair per follicular unit. An integral part of the process is to receive follicular unit grafts that have not been damaged. The harvested follicular units are then dissected with great care under fibre optic equipped microscopes to avoid the application of heat that may harm the hair follicles. Once separated, these follicular units are preserved in a special saline solution at the correct temperature waiting to be placed in the recipient area, which is the bald or thinning area on the scalp. Continuing the process, the surgeon first prepares recipient sites on the patient. The final step of the surgery is the follicular unit placement. The grafts are placed with due care and attention one by one with forceps by expert hair transplant technician, and not by any mechanical hair implanter or any other device. There are many factors that contribute towards a complete and natural result. The most important one is the experience and the know-how of the surgical team involved in the hair restoration surgery. An expert surgical team will deliver a state of the art hair restoration by observing strict quality control processes during every phase of the hair transplantation procedure.
Hair Restoration
It relies on both artistry and skill. Several key elements are necessary to achieve a satisfactory result. The most important of these key elements are the following: Proper Strip extraction and closing of the donor area
- Correct follicular unit dissection.
- Correct graft hydration and storage.
- Recipient site creation using correct angulation, direction and pattern.
- Creation of a natural hairline design.
- Careful placement of grafts during the surgery with the proper technique to avoid their damage.
- Proper hair transplant post-surgery care.
The correct separation of the grafts is vital to the final result of the Hair Transplantation process. The strip is first dissected in slivers as shown below, and the slivers are then dissected into follicular units. In the hands of a well trained team, this order of dissection ensures no waste of grafts and makes placing easier by eliminating graft damage. This is the main factor that contributes towards higher percentage growth. One important factor for a successful hair transplant procedure by the strip method is to leave a very fine or non visible scar on the donor site. The photograph below shows the example of our patient who came in for a 2nd hair transplant by strip method. The area for the 2nd strip was prepared, which includes the extraction of the 1st strip hair transplant scar. The photograph clearly shows that where the 1st strip was extracted for the first hair transplant procedure, the scar created is barely visible (click on the photo to enlarge). In addition to explaining our hair restoration techniques we show a different result in every section, because we understand that what matters most for the patient at the end of the day, is the final result after the procedure. Such an example is the one below.
Hair Transplant by FUE Method
Hair Transplantation by the Follicular Unit Extraction method (FUE) was considered to be a breakthrough in the hair transplant industry when it was commercially introduced in the western world in 2002. One of the biggest concerns of potential patients remains the fact that a strip hair transplant may leave a linear scar at the back of their head, which could restrict them from shaving their head or have a very short hair cut. So the beauty of an FUE hair transplant is that in the hands of experts leaves no visible scarring. The most important difference between FUE and Strip Hair Transplant techniques is the method used for extracting the follicular units. With FUE hair transplantation, a specialized punch with less than or equal to 1mm diameter is used for extracting the hair follicles directly from the scalp. The main advantage of this technique is that follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp rather than in larger groups, which deters the utilization of scalpel and stitching. In the FUE hair transplant procedure the donor area is required to be fully exposed by shaving it down to zero. If the patient however needs up to 1500 grafts, then the donor area does not need to be fully shaved and sufficient harvesting area can be exposed by a marine “crew” cut. HDC is already working on offering FUE hair transplantation with a technique that can avoid shaving the donor area. For getting more information on the non-shaven FUE hair transplant and for an evaluation of your case, you can fill in our online consultation form and we will get back to in a timely manner for free advice. After preparing the donor area, the patient goes to the surgery room where the nurse will make the basic check ups like blood pressure etc.At the same time the doctor continues with the drawing of the hairline and/or the whole recipient area and agrees with the patient where exactly the follicular units will be placed during the hair transplant procedure. The surgical procedure starts with administration of the local anesthesia to the donor area and the extraction of the follicular units. A simple way of presenting how FUE follicular units are extracted is shown in the figure below. A less than or equal to 1 mm diameter punch is inserted into the skin to the depth of the root of the hair follicle thus enabling the Hair Transplant Surgeon to detach the hair from the skin and to pull it out without damage . The extracted FUE follicular units are passed to the technicians of the medical team to check that the quality is of the highest standards under the microscope and immediately after group them into single, double, triple and quadruple follicular .The grouped follicular units are then placed in to different sections of the recipient area under the instructions of the hair transplant surgeon. Always the single hair follicular units are placed in the hairline for achieving a more natural looking result. The final stages of the FUE procedure are the creation of the recipient sites by the doctor and the placing of the follicular units by the rest of the medical team We then treat the FUE hair transplant donor area with a special solution so as to make the healing period shorter. Finally , the doctor will give the post operation instructions to the patient verbally and in writing. The patient will also receive a post operation kit that contains all the necessary medicines and solutions for the necessary after care. A state of the art FUE procedure consists of 9 stages. All these stages are interlinked and each stage needs to be performed correctly in order to have a successful final FUE result. Each member of the HDC medical team has the knowledge and experience to each and every stage in a state of the art way.

Patients who prefer the FUE hair transplant method may fall into one or more of the following categories:
Those who want small sessions up to 1500 grafts
Those who prefer FUE as being more contemporary
Those who want to expand their donor capabilities (combine Strip & FUE)
Those who are scared of surgery
The period that FUE hair transplant patients can go back to work after the procedure
It is the concern of many patients, how will they look immediately after the FUE hair transplant procedure and a few days later. Their main worry is how many days after the FUE procedure, will they be able to go back to work without any visible signs. We illustrate this with the photos below.
The main advantages in brief of the FUE Hair Transplant Technique are:
No linear scar in the donor site
Avoidance of scalpel and stitches
Fast healing
Less invasive Minimal post operation discomfort

Body & Beard Hair FUE
Body Hair FUE has been more and more in the limelight recently as many patients seek alternative donor hair from parts of the body other than the scalp. In the past body hair has not shown to be a very reliable source of hair follicles for hair transplantation. Many doctors or clinics have made various efforts to use body hair effectively so as to offer solutions to patients’ whose donor scalp hair was limited. Here in HDC, we have been using body hair for some time and we now consider it as a good source of follicular units when used mixed with scalp hair. Due to the difference in texture of a patient’s scalp to body hair, it has been noted that if using exclusively body hair to cover one specific area on the scalp we run the risk of this area’s hair to differ from the rest and thus make the result not very natural. So that we believe that it is necessary to mix body with scalp hair in order to get natural look. The main body hair that we use is beard hair and the reason is that we get a high number of grafts, more than 2000 in some patients, and the beard still remains without visible signs of scarring and without pigmentation of the skin. It is vital however, that the pattern of extraction is such so that no two adjacent grafts are extracted but follow a pattern that will give a natural thinning of the beard. Beard hair is most often thicker than scalp hair and mainly consists of 1 or 2 hair per graft. These grafts should not be used for hairline reconstruction as they may give a non-natural look. So these grafts should be mixed with scalp hair extracted the same day and be placed on top or crown areas. It is also possible to use beard hair for covering old strip scars so that we do not “waste” scalp hair in this areas. We demonstrate below a patient that we have extracted over 1,200 grafts from his beard. You can see how the patient was before and immediately after the extraction as well as the development of the healing 3-6 days post op. The amazing thing is that even in such a short period of time, there are no visible signs from the extraction of grafts or even the hair transplant procedure.
Beard Hair Transplant to Scars:
Here in HDC Hair Clinic, we already have applied the practice of transplanting beard hair into scars, created by previous strips or from other causes. It has been proven by the results that these transplants are successful. The beard to scars technique is advisable to patients with limited scar donor. It should be noted that beard hair transplantation to scars is equally successful as scalp hair. It should be outlined that beard hair is used only to patients with limited scalp donor hair and not as the primary option. We demonstrate below how beard hair can be used to cover a scar from a previous hair transplant with the FUE method and also how even after a period of 4 months the patient can have a very short haircut with no visible signs of the scar.
Chest Hair:
Chest hair is the second best body hair after Beard since is thinner than beard hair with again a low count of hair per follicular unit so they cover less than beard hair. In HDC Hair Transplant Clinic, we avoid using leg and arm hair as they are usually very thin and not giving adequate coverage.
