Hair Transplantation by the Follicular Unit Extraction method (FUE) was considered to be a breakthrough in the hair transplant industry when it was commercially introduced in the western world in 2002. One of the biggest concerns of potential patients remains the fact that a strip hair transplant may leave a linear scar at the back of their head, which could restrict them from shaving their head or have a very short hair cut. So the beauty of an FUE hair transplant is that in the hands of experts leaves no visible scarring. The most important difference between FUE and Strip Hair Transplant techniques is the method used for extracting the follicular units. With FUE hair transplantation, a specialized punch with less than or equal to 1mm diameter is used for extracting the hair follicles directly from the scalp. The main advantage of this technique is that follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp rather than in larger groups, which deters the utilization of scalpel and stitching. In the FUE hair transplant procedure the donor area is required to be fully exposed by shaving it down to zero. If the patient however needs up to 1500 grafts, then the donor area does not need to be fully shaved and sufficient harvesting area can be exposed by a marine “crew” cut. After preparing the donor area, the patient goes to the surgery room where the nurse will make the basic check ups like blood pressure etc.At the same time the doctor continues with the drawing of the hairline and/or the whole recipient area and agrees with the patient where exactly the follicular units will be placed during the hair transplant procedure. The surgical procedure starts with administration of the local anesthesia to the donor area and the extraction of the follicular units. Always the single hair follicular units are placed in the hairline for achieving a more natural looking result. The final stages of the FUE procedure are the creation of the recipient sites by the doctor and the placing of the follicular units by the rest of the medical team We then treat the FUE hair transplant donor area with a special solution so as to make the healing period shorter. Finally , the doctor will give the post operation instructions to the patient verbally and in writing. The patient will also receive a post operation kit that contains all the necessary medicines and solutions for the necessary after care. A state of the art FUE procedure consists of 9 stages.
